1st Day of School!

Ava, still in her pjs, wanted to be in the picture too!

The send off was perfect!  Both girls were so excited to start school and except for finally sleeping in, they did great.  Have I mentioned the girls are early risers?  For the most part, we don’t stay in bed past 7 am – the girls are supposed to stay in their rooms until 7, and many mornings I hear them making noise at 6:15.  Ava very rarely sleeps past 6:30 and she doesn’t understand the whole staying quiet until 7 :)  Of course today, no movement at all upstairs.  Well, to be fair, Ava woke up at 2:30 and came downstairs to sleep with me, so she was up for real at 6:15, but Anna and McKenna were snoozing away.  At 6:55 we went upstairs to get them.  Ava was pretty cute by running into their rooms and yelling ‘Cock-a-doodle-doo!’.  I don’t ever remember doing that with her, but she obviously picked it up somewhere.

In our mad dash to get dressed, hair fixed, teeth brushed and pictures taken, I forgot one tiny detail.  I didn’t give the girls breakfast!!!  I didn’t realize this until I got home and thought I was a little hungry.  There goes my mom of the year award.  Hopefully, their snacks will tide them over until lunch, but I guess we are going to have to work on getting up at 6:45 to get everything accomplished in the mornings.

Linda came with me since Patrick is still out of town and so we headed up to school.  The girls were excited until they saw how far away from the school we had to park to walk them in, but then we split up.  Linda took Anna to 2nd grade and I took McKenna to Kindergarten.  M was a little nervous, but was still very excited.  She unpacked her bag and went and found her chair, but not before we ran into Abbie on her way to class. Stopped for a quick photo :)

I gave her a kiss and told her I was going down to Anna’s class.  She smiled, kissed me back and waved good-bye.  I am so proud of her!  I got a little teary-eyed at this point, but held it together.

Now I headed over to 2nd grade to make sure Anna and Linda had found everything on that side.  Linda was out in the hall and Anna was busy in the classroom unpacking her supplies.  I ran in a gave her a quick kiss and hug, but she was all business and ready to go.  Linda said Anna’s eyes got a little full as they were heading to class, but that she didn’t cry and just gave her a hug and got to work!

I am heading back up to school for lunches in a bit, and I know the girls will be doing great.  I am so proud of both of them.  They are such wonderful little girls and I love that they are so excited about school and that they always have smiles on their faces.  We love you and this is going to be a wonderful year!!!

Summer is Over

It is 8:30 pm on Sunday night.  The girls are in bed, clothes are picked out, lunches planned, lunch notes written, snacks ready and last minute supplies are in the backpacks.  Can you tell it is the last day of summer?  Tomorrow school starts.  Anna is going into 2nd grade and McKenna is starting Kindergarten.  They are both very excited for the new year and really enjoyed meet the teacher night on Friday.  Neither girl has any good friends in their class, but they aren’t too upset.  I will take pictures and post soon so you can see how beautiful they look as they head of to school!

So how have we been spending the last few weeks of summer?  Hanging out with friends.  We have had swim parties and sleepovers, play dates and pedicures :)  We have been getting lots of fun in the last couple of weeks.  The girls have the tans to prove it!  It has been so hot that the pool is the best place to be if you are outside, of course, the temperatures of the water are pushing 90 degrees.

Tonight we finished off the summer by having a dinner with 2 other families, at 4 pm (we were all planning on having the girls in bed by 8pm at the latest, so we had to eat that early!).  Patrick is out of town on business, so he will miss the first day of school, but the girls called him tonight and I think their excitement carried over the phone.  I am off to do a little work and then to bed – we all have to be up early tomorrow.  See you soon!
